NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Leading up to Hall of Fame Weekend and the Induction Ceremony in September, The Apprentice School Department of Athletics is highlighting each member of this year's Hall of Fame class. Today, the spotlight is on former men's wrestler Carl Bruso.

Bruso wrestled for the Builders from 1977 to 1980, compiling an impressive 50-2 career record. He went 12-0 in 1977, 13-1 in 1978, 16-1 in 1979, and capped his career with a 9-0 season in 1980, where he won the Builder Invite. Bruso was named The Apprentice School's Most Valuable Wrestler all four of his seasons and earned Outstanding Wrestler honors at the 1980 Builder Invite.

In 1979, Bruso was honored by the Peninsula Sports Club's with Athlete of the Year honors for The Apprentice School.

After his standout playing career, Bruso returned to the program as an assistant coach in 1981 and again for the 1989-1991 seasons.
