LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Apprentice School women's wrestling team wrapped up a long weekend at St. Andrews Saturday, competing in the SAU Open after a dual match Thursday against the Knights.
In Thursday's dual, the Builders found themselves on the wrong end of a 20-10 match, but the Builders won three matches on the day.
Skylar Schaefer got things going at 131 with a pinfall at 1:50 to cut the Knight lead to 10-5.
Ida Pellei then got a pinfall of her own at 1:11 of the first period at 160 to again get the score down to a 15-10 score before the Knights finished the match with a win at 207. In one of the extra matches of the night, Pellei got another pinfall at the 2:00 mark.
Saturday, Pellei kept things rolling by claiming first in the 160 division, winning in the championship match by pinfall over Allen's Rakiyah Young at the 2:26 mark. Schaefer finished second at 138 in the open, winning her first match by tech fall over Allen's Lyric Drumgoole before a tech fall win over Randolph's Satori Swanson, both by 10-0 scores. In the third match of the tournament, Schaefer battled to a 8-5 decision loss to claim second place.
The women's wrestling team will be back in action December 6-7 at the New Standard Invitational at York, Pennsylvania.
