Women's Wrestling Captures Seventh at New Standard Invitational

YORK, Pa. - The Apprentice School women's wrestling team finished in seventh place at the New Standard Invitational this weekend, totaling 61 points in the event.

Jordyn Anderson was the top finisher for AS, taking runner-up honors at 131 pounds. After a quick 10-0 win in her opening match, Anderson beat fourth-seeded Ingrid Penn from Marymount in the quarterfinals, 7-2, before taking down nationally ranked No. 14 Jazmene Molina of Western New England in the semifinals, 13-7. Anderson fell in the finals, 10-9.

Janyla Anderson finished in third place at 117 pounds, going 5-1 on the weekend. After falling to No. 18 Maddie Riley of Western New England in the second round, Anderson went on a four-match winning streak to win third, beating the top two seeds in her final two matches of the day.

Kaylee Cambell went 2-2, finishing in fifth place at 110. She started her tournament off with a win by decision before falling in matches against national qualifiers from Ursinus and York. Gwen Matt went 3-2, placing sixth. Two of her wins were via fall and one was by tech fall. Her two losses were against former NCAA qualifiers.

Western New England finished with 171 points to win the tournament by 38 points over Ursinus. Mount Union, York and Eastern rounded out the top five.

The Builders wrestle again on Friday at the Wasp Open at Emory & Henry.
