NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School Department of Athletics has announced the six inductees into the 2025 class of the Apprentice Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place on October 3 at Paradise Ocean Club as part of the third annual Hall of Fame Weekend festivities.
The seventh class into the Hall of Fame will include Dr. Steve Apostoles, Tony Brown, Carroll Burch,
Herb Fields, Wayne Kirby and Rahshann Lewter. Apostoles has serves as a team doctor for the Builders for over 20 years and will go in to the Hall of Fame in the Contributor Group. Fields, the current strength and conditioning coach, will also go in as a Contributor after serving in the capacity since 1996.
Burch and Kirby will go in to the Hall of Fame as Legacy inductees. Burch was named the ASchool Athlete of the Year in 1971 and was a Gold Athletic Award winner in basketball. He also played baseball during his stint at Apprentice. Kirby played baseball and basketball at Apprentice and is the only baseball player in the school's history to be drafted and go on to play and coach in the MLB.
Brown and Lewter will go in as Builder Group inductees. Brown played baseball for four seasons and holds the career record for homers as well as ranking in the top 10 in six other career statistical categories. Lewter played basketball for four seasons, and she holds the career record in assists and minutes played over a career. She also ranks in the top five in eight other categories and is ninth all-time in scoring average.
Throughout the weeks leading up to the ceremony, Apprentice Athletics will spotlight each inductee, starting with Apostoles the week after Independence Day. Tickets for the ceremony as well as the third annual Hall of Fame Golf Tournament set for October 2 will go on sale as the spotlights start.
The weekend will conclude on October 4 as the inductees will be honored once again at halftime of the Builder football game against South Georgia Institute. Tickets for all football games as well as tailgating packages will go on sale in July as well.
