POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. - The Apprentice School men's wrestling team wrapped up action in the Lucha Open Saturday, hosted by Life University, with four wrestlers finishing on the podium.
Lucas Vannostrand won the 125 pound title in the Silver Division, continuing his streak of making the finals in every tournament this season. It was a dominant performance as well as the sophomore had a win by fall and a 10-5 decision before finishing the bracket with a major decision and two tech falls, including a 20-5 win over Keiser's Gunner Musilunas in the championship bout.
After winning his second title of the season and improving to an 11-1 record this season, Vannostrand said, "My foot is on the gas, and I intend to keep it there."
DJ Wince finished in second place at 157 pounds. After starting the bracket with a 22-6 tech fall, he won by back-to-back major decisions before beating Cumberlands Ayden Lehman, 4-2, to advance to the finals, where he ultimately fell to Winesburgh's Braylan Cosper.
Ethan Vannostrand opened his collegiate career with a fifth place finish at 133 pounds. The freshman opened the tournament with a 27 second pinfall and a 15-0 tech fall before dropping to the consolation bracket in a 4-1 loss in the quarterfinals. He rebounded with a tight 11-10 win in the consolation match to earn his fifth win of the tournament.
DJ Uribes ended in eighth place at 285. After falling in his first match to a Division II opponent, Uribes ran through the consolation bracket, winning five straight matches before reaching his match limit for the event, including defeating his first round opponent in his final match of the day by a 13-7 decision.
The next event for the Builders will be the New Standard Invitational December 5-6 in York, Pennsylvania.
